A complex kit. Woodworking skills, an R.O.S. & lots & lots of small clamps recommended. I don't see how it could possibly be built in the advertised 40 hrs. There's probably 80 hrs of glue curing alone. I'll take me longer because of problems, added wiring & other finish improvements. I expected the tab & slot construction to result in a squarer fit but this was not so requiring some filing & cutting to render level floors, roof & vertical walls that have accumulated mismatch tollerances up to 1/4"! Maybe the cutting dies are getting old and worn. I understand the kit was designed in the 70's/80's. The 1/8" sheet ply could be higher quality material, porous edges & splitting easily. Same for siding & shakes. Instructions work but could be clearer with more detail photos. Nonetheless, as I approach completion of the structure assy, it's looking good, it's sturdy & weighty and I'm actually having fun! Sure hope my nieces enjoy it.[@]

Plywood splinters when punched out. Edges are so ragged that they can not be sanded properly and have I have to use wood filler extensively. Rarely do the tabs and notches mate up with out having to be trimmed. Staircase and railling
wood was very warped making stairs and railings very difficult to assemble. It is taking hours and hours to get into condition to be used.

Comments about Greenleaf Beacon Hill Dollhouse Kit - 1 Inch Scale:
I purchased the Beacon Hill as a birthday gift for my grand-daughter . Tho she's a bit young to truly appreciate it , this will become a family heirloom . My daughter is excited as well , as it's bringing back memories of the dollhouse that I had built for her as a child .

Comments about Greenleaf Beacon Hill Dollhouse Kit - 1 Inch Scale:
Difficult for a first time project. Turned out great but took some time to finish.
The instructions could use more pictures.
DO NOT use a hot glue gun.
Impressed with the consistency of the sizing of the cut-outs.
Some of the sheets of cut-outs had a bad splintering effect in the plywood.
Otherwise a lovely project.

Comments about Greenleaf Beacon Hill Dollhouse Kit - 1 Inch Scale:
This is my first dollhouse project -- although I am a DIY maintenance and home repair person. Hayneedle offered amazing selection among 1" scale dollhouses. Ordering was a breeze, and my package arrived quickly. The materials are all there, all organized, and instructions are complete and clear. I can't wait to see my little house progress, and to learn more about working in miniature scale.

Q1: What is the thickness of the wood?
A: It is made of plywood. Shingles are a birch veneer. Wood is 3/16 of an inch.
